AWARDS

RADIO K ALUMNI ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP
SPRING 2013

One of my biggest projects as Radio K's Production Director was implementing an in-house production standard, something that hadn't concretely existed before my term. Older content that was still being aired had been mastered differently than more recent content, resulting in an inconsistent broadcast that required listeners to ride the volume dial. To fix this, I remastered the old content and implemented the same loudness standard for all future content. I was fortunate enough to work one-on-one with broadcast engineers from Radio K and Minnesota Public Radio in the process. I was awarded the RKAA Scholarship for my work on this project.

HEARST JOURNALISM AWARD NOMINEE
SPRING 2013

My feature story for JOUR 3173W Magazine Writing was nominated for a Hearst Journalism Award in Spring 2013. Read the full story here.

TESTIMONIALS

"During his time as Production Director, he made huge improvements to our broadcast. Most impressive was the arduous hours spent working not only to make it easier for DJs to manage audio levels, but also re-producing all of our pre-recorded spots and creating a first-ever station-wide audio standard. Alex’s work has greatly improved the listener’s experience which helps the station by in-turn increasing donations. He truly went ‘above and beyond’ in his work as Production Director."

Sara Miller
Station Manager
Radio KUOM

"Thanks to Alex Simpson for his masterful engineering and studio acumen. Sounds radical!"
